Lutheran Education: A Caring Environment
Lutheran schools provide warm and caring relationships in a safe environment. They are places where individual gifts and differences are respected and care between parents, staff and students is emphasised.
There is a major focus on teaching and learning at St Michael’s, but we strive to offer more than that. When a family joins St Michael’s they become part of a community which offers warm, caring relationships and a safe environment.
Unique Students
A Lutheran school sees each student as unique, with their own gifts and needs. Lutheran Schools cater for a wide range of abilities and emphasise key competencies, stimulate thinking skills, utilise technology and provide programs for students with diverse learning needs and gifted and talented students.
Lutheran schools create a challenging and enjoyable learning environment with an emphasis on self-motivation. Students are also encouraged to develop a spirit of service.
Standards of Teaching and Learning
As a Christian learning community, St Michael’s Lutheran School aspires to provide an education of excellence. We recruit and hire well-qualified, professional and Christian teachers who are active in supporting students in a Christian approach to life.
We incorporate into our learning program the curriculum requirements and guidelines set in place by the South Australian Education System.
The teaching program emphasises key competencies, stimulates thinking skills and integrates technology into the curriculum.
Christian Growth and Development
St Michael’s integrates Christian understandings into all our teaching, we seek to provide our students with a knowledge of Christian beliefs and teachings.
Lutheran Education in the Adelaide Hills
Lutheran schools in the Adelaide Hills have a cooperative arrangement where we work together to combine resources and strengthen the quality of Lutheran Education.
Those schools working together are:
- St Michaels Primary School, Hahndorf
- Lobethal Lutheran School
- St Mark's Lutheran School, Mount Barker
- Cornerstone College, Mount Barker
Entry into Cornerstone College is the highest priority for students from Lutheran primary schools (after siblings) ensuring a seamless Lutheran education.
Working with Parents
Lutherans believe that God has given parents and caregivers the prime responsibility for the education of their children. Each family works together with the School for the welfare of students with shared aims and values.
St Michael’s holds itself accountable to parents for the progress and welfare of its students. We have in place structures for constant communication between your home and the school.
We actively encourage parents to get involved in their children's schooling and to participate in school life.
